GENERAL CHEMICAL RAIL LOADOUT SYSTEM
![]()
Project Description -
SELAH designed, tested, and provided operational capability for a rail car product loading system for General Chemical Co. of Rock Springs, Wyoming. The control system was developed using GE 90-70 PLC and GE Genius intelligent I/O system. Control system consists of approximately 200 I/O points and interfaces with new loading chute equipment, electronic weighing scales, new operator controls, and existing plant alarm system. The new control system was commissioned for service 48 hours after startup testing was initiated.
Benefits/Value Added -
The updated control system automated the rail car loading process and increased product output of soda ash by 250%. This increased productivity allowed 2 workers to be transferred from loadout operations to other critical production activities which required additional resources. SELAH GROUP also provided startup and follow-on training support to ensure reliable and cost-effective maintenance of a critical production control system. SELAH GROUP is currently assisting General Chemical with the planning and architecture of a $17M production plant upgrade project, currently scheduled for implementation in late 1996.
